About the Course

The New York Online Defensive Driving Course (also known as I-PIRP: Internet Point and Insurance Reduction Program) was approved by the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles on May 18th, 2009. This new program was installed to help increase the number of New York State residents who receive this important and helpful training. Realizing the potential of the internet as a delivery mechanism for this training, the NYSDMV has now made it possible to complete the defensive driving course from the comfort of your own home, at your own pace.

Given the state of our roadways today, the time has never been better to learn how to become a defensive driver. Once you register for the online defensive driving course, you have up to 30 days to complete the class! Now you can take the class on your own time, at your own pace, without having to give up your weekend and sit in a classroom!
